Will sit-ups burn belly fat?

The short answer- No.

People often assume that the toned six-pack abs they're looking for are going to be achived with a lot of sit-ups. Unfortunately, even if you do 100 crunches a day, you won't lose the fat from your belly. Not a chance.

Since a toned belly is exactly what everyone is looking for, the market is saturated with all kinds of belly-busting videos and workouts. The truth is, targeted fat loss — losing fat from the exact area you want— is not possible, no matter how many crunches you do.

At the end of the day, when people say they want a six-pack or a flat belly, what they really mean is they want to get rid of the layer of fat covering the muscles in their midsection. You can think of doing situps and crunches kind of like doing a bicep curl. Each type of exercise strengthens a specific group of muscles.

Sadly it’s not us who choses where to burn fat from. Your body choses that. The only way you can lose fat from your belly is to lose fat from your entire body.

Sit ups are essential for strengthening your core — obvious, I know. But your core is responsible for so much more than those classic “six pack” abs many strive for. A strong core can reduce back pain, improve balance and increase your flexibility. Core muscles also support your hips and pelvis. Finally, a strong core will help you build good posture.
